The Tataupa Tinamou is approximately 25 cm in length. Its upper parts are dark brown, with a dark brown crown, a pale grey throat. It has darker grey on the sides of its head, neck, and breast, with a bu belly buff. Its bill and legs are purplish red.

Tropical and subtropical forest, dense wet gulleys, near forest edges. SOmetimes in grassy area and scrub.

Ants and gastropods, seeds and plant matter.


This species has an extremely large range, and hence does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the range size criterion (Extent of Occurrence 30% decline over ten years or three generations). The population size has not been quantified, but it is not believed to approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population size criterion (10% in ten years or three generations, or with a specified population structure). No much is known, lays 4-5 grey to brown eggs. Incubated for about 19 days.
