I deer hunted this November 2025 season near Perronville in the upper peninsula of Michigan and seen twice a mostly white hawk with dark tail feathers and some color on wing tips. Monday the 17th at about 10am and the next day Tuesday the 18th around the same time. It swooped down and hovered 5-6 feet off the ground from my bait pile and up an dover the ridge I was hunting from.
Very awesome experience and when I explained to my sons mother she said it was my fathers spirit watching over me. I also mentioned to co-workers and they said I have a protector.

Just this morning I saw a northern goshawk sitting on a bunch shopping carts at the Meijer store in Southgate Michigan. I approached it to within about 6 ft, seemed like I could have got even closer! We looked at each other for maybe 30 seconds. I was afraid it was hurt or sick so I rattled the carts and he flew off and perched up on a light pole in the parking lot. Made a memorable shopping trip.

Mr Moller Nielsen,
Thanks for the great article! On December 4th, 2023, I spotted, and filmed a Red-Shouldered Hawk sitting about 15' on a branch, perfectly blending in with brown unfallen Oak leaf clusters on a wooded edge above a fertile squirrel enclave below. We have sighted several raptors in flight in this same area, Red Tailed Hawks frequently hunt along roads and the small lake nearby, Bald Eagle(s) near the Grand River. With the squirrels becoming more active now, I'll be watching for the dark-winged, dark bodied hawk that I spotted today, out-flying a few chasing crows. Hope to report a new "8 Hawks in Michigan " species soon. Cheers.

In reply to <a href="https://avibirds.com/hawks-in-michigan/#comment-456">Daniel Cygeirt</a>.

Thanks, Dan! Much appreciated. The word sparrow hawk is a weird size. In Europe the Eurasian sparrow hawk is a species called Accipiter nisus in Latin. It's not in the Americas at all, and neither are any of its other sparrow hawk cousins. But the American Kestrel has gotten "sparrowhawk" as a nickname, even though it's a falcon and not closely related to the sparrowhawk group. It's a fierce little bird! I've actually written an article about Falcons in Michigan that you can read here: https://avibirds.com/falcons-in-michigan/

I really liked this article, a great piece to read for more infobits! (The only thing that I can add is that I remember my dad always talkin about a Sparrow hawk, come to find out, it's not quite in the hawk category, but would have been certainly awesome to have seen it listed here! (Fyi from Michigan!). Have a great day, & keep up the awesome work!!
